NEW SMYRNA BEACH — Sidewalks, landscaping, pedestrian safety improvements and potentially burying utilities along U.S. 1 were named priorities Tuesday by city commissioners for a proposed Community Redevelopment Area.
The commission was asked to list their top 10 capital projects in a new CRA that would run along U.S. 1 — called North Dixie Freeway in New Smyrna Beach — from just north of the New Smyrna Beach Municipal Airport to the Edgewater city limits and take in portions of the Historic Westside neighborhood, the Canal Street Historic District and a section of State Road 44.
New Smyrna Beach’s current CRA is scheduled to sunset on May 9, 2015. It includes the Canal Street, Flagler Avenue and Third Avenue business districts as well as a section of the Historic Westside.
