Stuart City Hall, with its magnificent views of the St. Lucie River in the heart of downtown Stuart, could be torn down.
What should happen next? A new city hall that meets today’s hurricane safety standards and handicapped-accessibility rules could be built on the same riverfront site. Or a new city hall could be built elsewhere and an 80-room hotel could replace it. Or a 40-room hotel.
Or maybe the city hall can be shored up to last longer. And what should happen to all that wonderful riverfront land, now owned by and open to the public? Should it be leased to a developer? Or should residents get to keep a 40-foot strip? An 80-foot strip? Or all the land?
