Jacksonville Reorganizes JEDC
The Jacksonville City Council will receive Mayor Alvin Brown’s plan to establish a Downtown Investment Authority at its meeting tonight.
The new organization, led by a nine-member board, would focus on revitalizing the downtown area, long one of Brown’s major talking points. Brown’s focus on the issue was a turning point in his election, bringing Jacksonville Civic Council Chairman Peter Rummell on as a supporter.
“This is designed to focus energy, focus our attention, focus everything we have on downtown,” said Rummell, who was at the Tuesday afternoon ceremony announcing the legislation.
Legally, the new organization will take over for the Jacksonville Economic Development Agency, which the legislation abolishes. The broader task will be taken over by the Office of Economic Development.
