Sanford commissioners this week selected Torre Development Group to develop a stagnant pocket near the Lake Monroe waterfront into an area filled with homes, restaurants, shops and offices.
The roughly three-block area — bordered by East Seminole Boulevard, Sanford Avenue, First Street and Palmetto Avenue — is owned by the city and mostly being used as parking lots for Seminole’s civil courthouse and the downtown district.
In the coming weeks, the city and representatives from the Coral Gables-based developer will work out plans on developing the 5.5 acres. As portions of the project are developed, the city and developer will sell off the land and the buildings.
