CLERMONT — The old fire department in downtown Clermont may disappear from the landscape soon.
That’s because city officials have begun discussions about demolishing it to create additional parking downtown.
Fire Chief Carle Bishop said he remembers working out of the building, located at 882 West Desoto St., behind what is still the Police Department.
He was stationed at the old building as chief from 1971 to 1994, before the station was moved to a site behind City Hall.
On Thursday night, Bishop was asked the date the building was originally built, so he drove there looking for a plaque containing historic dates. The plaque was no longer there.
