PORT ORANGE — Riverwalk Park could become a waterfront venue for concerts and community gatherings with amenities such as boardwalks, splash pads and an event lawn — but only if the price is right.
Port Orange City Council members approved a new conceptual master plan Tuesday for the more than 20 acres of public green space that accompanies a private development with high-rise condominiums, a 38-slip marina and docked riverboat restaurant from the northern city limits to Dunlawton Avenue along Halifax Drive.
Last year the city hired the engineering firm Dredging Marine Consultants to design the park’s conceptual plans. The firm presented plans Tuesday after receiving input during a workshop with residents this month. The plans include an oval parking lot with more than 200 parking spaces, a playground with a splash pad for children, a kayak/canoe launch to the Halifax River, sand volleyball court, pavilions and connected trails and sidewalks.
