Treasure Island’s Silverboard: parking garage not feasible
TREASURE ISLAND – City Manager Reid Silverboard told Treasure Island Commissioners Nov. 5 that building a parking garage either beachside or downtown is not feasible.
He pointed to the estimated $6 million cost and the revenue the city would receive as the reason.
“As you know, we have two sites under consideration,” said Silverboard. “One is the Beachfront Park and the other is the city hall site here. As best as we can determine, there is not a demand for a parking structure either at Beachside or the city hall site. Putting in a $6 million structure on this (city hall) site and also building a new city hall to me is not feasible. There isn’t the demand for parking that would generate the revenue that would be needed to pay off the debt service.”
