Palmetto debates funding strategy for nonprofits
PALMETTO — The Palmetto City Commission approved the first reading of its$22.4 million budget proposal Monday evening during a special meeting.
Funding nonprofits properly became a point of discussion.
Commissioner Brian Williams said the city is shortchanging its representation at the Manatee County Fair. He said the city should invest more in materials to help promote Palmetto’s Community Redevelopment Agency.
“The thing that I’m trying to point out is 155,000 people come through the fair,” said Williams.
The commission talked about eliminating its booth at the fair. Williams opposed the belt-tightening.
