New Smyrna Beach’s downtown revival – from the ashes: New building occupies prominent NSB location
The site at the southeast corner of Canal and Orange streets ran the gamut of businesses over about 90 years — home to five-and-dime and dollar stores, a restaurant and most recently a furniture shop. Since 2008, however, the prominent downtown location hasn’t been anything except empty. That’s changed as construction is wrapping up on a two-story, 5,300-square-foot building that will house two businesses. The JAM Spot, described as an indoor play and learning center for kids, will occupy the bottom floor while Shok Idea Group, a graphic design firm, is moving from its current location on Flagler Avenue and will take up the top floor, said Dick Rosedale, the building’s owner.
