Bonita Springs swaps CRA quest for Lee County cash
Downtown Bonita Springs could start getting drainage and parking improvements next year.
City Manager Carl Schwing met with Lee County staff Wednesday to work on creating an interlocal agreement to redevelop Bonita’s downtown.
“They’re going to contribute as if we had a tax-increment financing agreement without formally having the CRA (Community Redevelopment Area),” Schwing said. “I’m hopeful we could get this agreement in place by the end of the year.”
He said such an agreement — to receive county property taxes received above a base-year amount — would be easier than asking the county for authorization to create a CRA or for a loan.
