SOUTH DAYTONA — A group of city managers from all over Volusia County sat around a police training-room table recently trying to salvage CRAs. It was Day 15 of their 60-day window to come up with a compromise to present to the county.
They might be getting closer, but one thing is clear: The money’s not going to be what it used to be.
CRAs — or Community Redevelopment Areas, the blighted parts of cities that get extra tax revenue to make things better — are about to become less lucrative for cities in Volusia County. And they’re just one example of how local governments are jockeying for position when it comes to dwindling tax revenue.
