A new chapter begins April 16 for one of West Tampa’s most cherished green spaces.
City officials, community leaders, and residents gathered Wednesday afternoon to mark the start of a long-anticipated renovation of Salcines Park, a 6,000-square-foot community space named for civic leader Emiliano Salcines. The $1.4 million project, funded by the Tampa Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), is expected to be completed by mid-2026.
“This is a renowned space that has served residents for decades,” said Tampa City Council member Gwendolyn Henderson, who chairs the CRA. “We are thrilled to invest in these improvements to make the neighborhood even more appealing to residents and visitors.”
Renovations will include new pergolas with swinging benches, café-style seating for community gatherings, interactive game tables, historically inspired fencing, upgraded lighting for safety, and refreshed landscaping. The park’s well-known blue and white mural, which celebrates iconic figures in the community. will remain as a centerpiece.
