The Housing Authority of the city of Fort Myers has appointed E. Bruce Strayhorn as chairman of its board of commissioners.
Appointed by the mayor of the city of Fort Myers, the board serves as the governing officers of the Housing Authority of the city of Fort Myers, or HACFM and ensure that the authority’s purpose and responsibilities are carried out efficiently and economically.
The seven members of the board are volunteers. Commissioners provide oversight, ensuring the Housing Authority operates within the law and according to the regulations of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
A sixth-generation Floridian born in Fort Myers and a graduate of Fort Myers High School, Mr. Strayhorn practices law with the firm of Strayhorn & Persons in Fort Myers. He has served as assistant state attorney, director of the Fort Myers Downtown Property Owners’ Association, board member of the Lee County Housing Development Corporation and member of the Lee County Affordable Housing Task Force.
He has served on the Housing Authority of the City of Fort Myers board since 1989, originally appointed by Mayor Arthur Hamel.
Mr. Strayhorn is the recipient of the Humanitarian Award by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, served as co-founder of the American Cancer Society’s Lee County Cattle Barons’ Ball, and served as director of the Fort Myers Rod & Gun Club.
