Depot Park’s opening remains ahead of schedule. It’s set for Aug. 1, less than a year after construction began.
And with a recent $60,000 donation from Capital City Bank, local residents will receive respite from Florida’s relentless summer sun via a new sunshade structure.
“It was a missing link in the project,” said Cindi Harvey, a Community Redevelopment Agency staff member. “There really is a lack of shade in Depot Park, and so this is going to provide a much-needed source of shade, specifically in the children’s play area, where there’s going to be a lot of kids and parents.”
The sunshade intends to run along the western side of the splash pad. It’s one of the main attractions at the 32-acre downtown location.
According to Harvey, the splash pad is made in the image of Florida’s extensive underground caves and caverns.
