The next step in bringing Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik’s $2 billion vision for the redevelopment of Tampa’s urban core to life comes in the form of road work.
Strategic Property Partners, the real estate firm owned by Vinik, and capital investment firm Cascade Investments LLC signed a $35 million contract with Tampa’s Kimmins Contracting Corporation to redevelop roadways and make infrastructure improvements around his 40-acre property holdings in downtown Tampa. It’s the latest step, of many to come, in Vinik’s plans to transform Tampa’s downtown into a multi-use, waterfront project aimed at promoting a walkable downtown community.
The road work project along Channelside Drive is expected to begin this summer, pending approval from the city. Construction will be completed in phases over two years to accommodate traffic and pedestrian access, according to a news release.
