Right now in our Legislature, it’s full speed ahead for them to tell local governments they will decide if the house next door to you will become a short-term vacation rental (CS/SB 1128). Think about that. A group of 160 people in Tallahassee will decide if the homes on your block will rent every week or two to people who are here to party and vacation. And those 160 people may have never been to Bradenton or Boynton Beach, or Longboat Key or Lighthouse Point, or Windermere or Winter Park. The needs, desires and safety of the residents can’t be served by legislators who meet for eight weeks once a year, hundreds of miles from most of their constituents. What is the difference between speaking and addressing your local elected officials versus your state legislators on a topic as important as this is to residents? You can address your local elected officials regularly.
