Despite concerns from residents and even themselves, Boynton Beach’s elected officials gave Davis Camalier and his development team their first approval to build Ocean One, an eight-story apartment building with retail spots and a parking garage at Federal Highway and Boynton Beach Boulevard.
The commissioners approved rezoning the land, which would match surrounding residential developments. Also, they voted to allow the developer to incorporate certain land, such as an existing turning lane, into the project to make room for parking, a public plaza and landscaping. The commissioners will vote a final time on those two items in April, along with a new site plan.
Camalier plans to build Ocean One in two phases: The first phase is an apartment building with 231 units, 8,575 square feet of retail space and a seven-story parking garage. The second phase is expected to be a 120-room hotel, another residential building and 3,500 square feet of additional retail. The 3.6-acre project is in the middle of where the city’s downtown would be, once it’s populated.
