Mayor Nick Girone said a request from a resident to consider holding certain council meetings throughout the year at venues other than city council chambers got him thinking that it wasn’t a bad idea.
So when it came time for choosing a place for the city’s first ever State of the City address and Town Hall Meeting combo Thursday, Girone chose the Martin Luther King Center, located on Florida Avenue in the heart of the Grandview Business District.
“We’re trying to combine the Grandview Business District with our Downtown Business district so we thought it would be a great place to begin,” Girone said.
In front of a few dozen people in attendance, Girone presented his annual State of the City; highlighting council accomplishments, reviewing projects on the books, outlining visions for the city’s future and touting the work staff members put in to help move things along.
Girone then turned the meeting over to council members and attendees. Discussions ensued on various topics including state legislation with effects that may trickle down to Mount Dora, downtown area parking, the Wekiva Parkway, the Wolfbranch Innovation District, city staff and their roles and more.
