DAYTONA BEACH — City commissioners and the mayor tackled a full agenda Wednesday night, discussing and voting on everything from measures dealing with a new riverfront trail to new signage that will help people find things in the city. Here’s a roundup.
NEW WAWA STORE AND GAS STATION: Commissioners approved rezoning 3.5 acres of land at the southwest corner of Ridgewood Avenue and International Speedway Boulevard from redevelopment downtown commercial to planned development-redevelopment to allow for a 6,119-square-foot Wawa convenience store and gas station.
The Wawa is planned for a site beside the existing 14,500-square-foot Walgreens store at the corner of ISB and Ridgewood. Those behind the Wawa project plan to close on the land sale next month and they expect to open the new store and gas station late next summer.
Company officials say they’ll invest $5 million in the Daytona Wawa, which will include new landscaping, and create 40-50 permanent jobs.
