LAKELAND —The 4,500-acre area designated the Midtown Community Redevelopment District started the fiscal year with almost five years’ worth of revenues in surplus. It idles no longer as the agency launches several major projects and gets ready for more in 2017. The Midtown district includes roughly the area between George Jenkins Boulevard/Bartow Road and I-4.
MASS MARKET — $3 MILLION
This former Salvation Army complex is being renovated as a mixed-use complex with event space, a commercial kitchen, an art enclave and 12 housing units. It is now fully leased and partially in use, and should be fully occupied by early 2017.
LINCOLN SQUARE — EST. $3.5 MILLION
A project to turn a dilapidated apartment complex into 22 new, single-family homes has long been a goal, and after several false starts, the city is now poised to break ground by the end of the year. Houses will be built and sold to homesteaders at a discount over multiple phases.
