Four Central Florida cities joined Altamonte Springs today in helping Uber riders pay their fares when using the ride-sharing service within those municipalities. Under the discount program, Lake Mary, Longwood, Sanford and Maitland will now pick up 25 percent of the cost of using Uber to or from a SunRail train station within those cities. The cities also will pick up 20 percent of the fare for using Uber on all trips that begin and end within each of those cities as a way of easing traffic congestion. Altamonte Springs launched a similar program last March. The Uber discount now offered by the five cities will run through July 2017. Officials for each of the cities said that in the coming months they will explore expanding the Uber discounts for trips that go through two or more of the participating municipalities. To take advantage of the discount, riders will have to first use their smart phones to download the Uber app from Google Play or iTunes.
