LAKELAND — Five new homes owned by five homesteaders could help turn an underdeveloped corner of the Parker Street neighborhood into an example of restabilization.
Prestige Worldwide Group, a boutique historic real estate firm in Lakeland, will donate materials and labor to create old Lakeland-style bungalows on five empty lots on Vermont Avenue north of U.S. 98.
Then Parker Street Ministries, a faith-based neighborhood renewal organization, will select families to purchase the greatly reduced-cost homes to make their homesteads. Investors need not apply, under the belief that homesteaded owners will have more of a stake in the outcome of the neighborhood and how their homes can contribute to it.
