NEW SMYRNA BEACH — The Outback Steakhouse in New Smyrna Beach closed last week and its parent company also announced plans to shutter 14 of the more than 200 Bonefish Grill restaurants it operates nationally.
Tampa-based Bloomin’ Brands Inc., which owns both chains, intends to keep its other two Outbacks in Volusia County and has not yet disclosed which Bonefish locations will close. Most of the closures will occur this year.
Spokeswoman Elizabeth Watts said the Bonefish locations to close will only be those deemed “underperforming.”
The Bonefish chain has just one location in Volusia: a beachside restaurant at 814 S. Atlantic Ave. in Ormond Beach. Its two remaining Outbacks in the county are at 1735 W. International Speedway Blvd. in Daytona Beach, in front of Daytona Beach International Airport, and at 135 E. Granada Blvd. in Ormond Beach.
