I would like to challenge the purposes of the Community Redevelopment Agency. It appears the agency is straying from the original purposes of redevelopment.
It is providing taxpayer dollars to businesses and entities in direct competition with existing local businesses.
Now for some history about redevelopment. Back in the late ‘40s and early ‘50s, the U.S. government passed an Urban Renewal Act. The purpose of the act was to assist local communities with funds to eliminate blight and deterioration. This act determined that there was a “public purpose” in providing funds to “promote, protect and provide for the health, safety and welfare” of the people in various communities. Then each state had to do the same thing by creating similar laws.
