University of Central Florida President John Hitt pitched his proposal for a downtown Orlando campus to local leaders Wednesday and said UCF would again seek approval for the project from the Florida Board of Governors, probably early next year.
UCF’s proposal, which is on the tentative Board of Governors’ meeting agenda for January, calls for the campus to open in fall 2018 with nearly 7,700 students — about 5,400 from UCF and the rest from Valencia College.
But first it must persuade the Florida Board of Governors, which oversees the state university system, to recommend funding for the project to the Legislature. UCF’s plan is competing with proposals from other universities.
