Downtown Pensacola will be lighted like never before this holiday season, and the New Year’s Eve Pelican Drop may well be the largest now that the event has been moved.
The Downtown Improvement Board has already begun spending about $200,000 it received from the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners to light and decorate downtown Pensacola this holiday season, and has plans to spend another $87,000 to put on this year’s Pelican Drop. A further $18,000 will be spent to promote downtown as a holiday destination with a targeted marketing campaign in various forms of social and traditional media.
