LAND O’ LAKES — Pasco County Commissioner Mike Moore heard mostly positive feedback this week on a proposed ordinance that would allow the county to cite and fine owners of blighted commercial structures who fail to maintain their properties.
Moore, who pitched the idea to county commissioners in June, has said the proposed ordinance would help spur economic development, protect property values and increase public safety.
He wants to model the code on a Hillsborough County ordinance that was enacted in 2009; it would apply to properties on major roadways such as U.S. 19, U.S. 301 and U.S. 41.
A town hall meeting to discuss details of the proposal was held Wednesday at the county Utilities Administration Office near the Land O’ Lakes Jail; about 100 people attended.
