ZEPHYRHILLS — A code enforcement crackdown is coming to Zephyrhills.
City leaders sounded the alarm this week during a City Council workshop, warning that blight is spreading throughout the city as property owners are letting their properties fall into extreme disrepair.
“Something needs to be done about this. It’s almost getting out of control,” City Manager Steve Spina told council members.
The council held the workshop because of complaints from the public and an overwhelmed code enforcement staff is seeing an uptick in violations. Spina called many problem property owners “regulars.” The increased problems have led Spina to create a task force of city code enforcement staffers, building officials, planners and the Community Redevelopment Agency to come up with ideas to fight the growing number of deteriorating properties.
