TREASURE ISLAND — As a city with an aging infrastructure and limited growth potential, officials are looking for every opportunity to generate more revenue.
One possibility on the horizon that could expand the city’s tax base is redevelopment of residential areas, said City Manager Reid Silverboard.
About 83 percent of the city’s property tax base is residential, Silverboard said.
“We need to look at the development review process and find ways to make it easier for residents to renovate their homes,” he said.
Most of the city’s housing was built in the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s and needs to be upgraded to meet existing code and flood elevation requirements.
