A controversial plan to eliminate two road-improvement fees charged to developers and replace them with something called a mobility plan, with rates some argue are too low, will be considered by Sarasota County commissioners at a public hearing Tuesday.
If adopted, the mobility plan would supplant the existing system of road impact fees that Sarasota County charges developers to offset the cost of new properties’ impacts on public infrastructure.
Other impact fees — such as those for parks and other facilities — will not be affected.
The plan also would set the stage to repeal concurrency, a long-standing regulation used to protect the community from rapid growth by ensuring necessary infrastructure is available to handle the added development.
