There’s no doubting the achievements of the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency in lifting the city from the doldrums to a dynamo.
But after 30 years, the agency’s success has turned it into something of a runaway train, an engine that rakes in lots of money and seems hellbent to spend it — often to bolster an already-prosperous downtown while ignoring crying needs elsewhere in the city of 65,000.
Last week, the five-member City Commission, with rare unanimity, issued stern warnings to the CRA leadership to change course or risk losing money or autonomy. We’re glad to see the elected officials begin to assert control.
