The city of Gainesville this week drew closer to closing a deal to sell City Lot 10 downtown to a developer interested in building a hotel there when the City Commission OK’d moving forward with a proposed sale agreement.
Horizon Hospitality Management Inc. is interested in buying Lot 10, which sits across from Loosey’s on Southwest First Avenue and Second Street, and building a mixed-use development that would include a hotel. The city has spent several months negotiating with Horizon regarding selling the parking lot as well as Horizon’s related desire to secure parking spaces in the close-by Southwest Downtown Parking Garage.
The City Commission’s Thursday night meeting ran past midnight as commissioners discussed the proposed contract for the purchase of Lot 10. The board ended up voting to authorize the city manager to execute the contract, although there are still some issues that need to be worked out regarding the sale agreement, including some timing stipulations that Horizon Hospitality has suggested changing.
