CRYSTAL RIVER — A project intended to revitalize Crystal River’s downtown is one step closer after city officials approved a three-year budgetary pledge on Monday.
Members of the of the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) — who also sit separately as the city council — approved $104,212 to be allocated the Florida Main Street Program over the period of 38 months.
Main Street is a national program managed through the Department of State’s Historical Resources division, which has 43 Main Street membership communities in Florida, including Inverness and Dunedin.
The program brings together city government, local businesses and organizations to create, fund and advise a nonprofit group to start projects that will improve certain areas of downtown.
