Michael Mitchell, the event coordinator for the Civil War re-enactment Raid on the Suwannee, informed the Live Oak Community Redevelopment Agency of the success of last year’s event during a recent CRA meeting. Mitchell said he was able to return money back to the CRA, per an agreement, and received a lot of positive feedback from reenactors and spectators at the Raid.
“With your generous support, the Raid was a very successful event in 2014,” said Mitchell. “More than 250 reenactors, their wives, and in many cases children and other family members, came for several days of participation in the event. Most went to restaurants, hardware stores, and retail establishments in our area.”
Raid attendees hailed from the Carolinas, Alabama, Georgia, and throughout Florida, and Mitchell said many of them also stayed in local hotels, ate in restaurants, and visited retail businesses.
