NEW SMYRNA BEACH — Developers of a proposed beachfront hotel off Flagler Avenue, which has been vigorously opposed by many residents, have scaled back their plan by 32 rooms.
A 114-room SpringHill Suites by Marriott could be built on about 1.5 acres just north of the Breakers Restaurant and Lounge, which sits beside the Flagler Avenue beach approach, if the site’s land use is changed from its commercial designation to a hospitality category that allows up to 75 rooms per acre. The City Commission will consider the request at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in front of what is expected to be a packed house at the Brannon Center, 105 S. Riverside Drive.
