The possible establishment of a Community Redevelopment Area for west Ocala took a major step forward this week.
The Ocala City Council, acting in its capacity as the Community Redevelopment Advisory Board, voted 4-0 Tuesday to send a draft plan for the proposed CRA to the Planning & Zoning Commission for review to make sure the plan complies with the city’s comprehensive plan.
With that vote, the city is getting closer to its goal of creating a CRA for west Ocala, which could help upgrade the area. Creating a CRA establishes a mechanism by which a portion of tax dollars generated in the CRA can be set aside to help revitalize that area.
