MAITLAND – Maitland’s downtown may actually become a downtown after City Council approved a controversial mixed-use development at a special meeting that lasted into the early morning.
The $65 million Maitland City Centre would include a six-story, 250-unit residential complex and a seven-story, 505-spot parking garage with retail space, all on a 3.2-acre parcel between City Hall and Route 17-92 once occupied by a long-closed Winn-Dixie.
Developer David Lamb told a standing-room-only crowd at Maitland City Hall that his proposed plan to transform downtown provided “a solution to bring the community together.”
