GAINESVILLE – A former car wash and book store were demolished on the east side of the 300 block of Northwest 13th Street as part of plans to build a six-story apartment building.
Another developer now has plans to build more six-floor apartment buildings on the west side of 13th Street that would involve demolishing parts of three blocks — from the FreeRide Surf & Skate Shop to the ABC Fine Wine & Spirits.
The new project, introduced at a workshop for neighboring property owners Monday night, would be built by Landmark Properties, the same Athens, Georgia,-based student housing developer that was selected by the owner of University Corners earlier this year to develop that long-stalled project by building up to 10 stories and 1.3 million square feet of apartment, retail and hotel space on the northwest corner of 13th Street and University Avenue.
