ZEPHYRHILLS — Betty Kennedy has been named the new executive director of Main Street Zephyrhills, Inc., following the resignation of Gina Granger, whose last day was Tuesday.
This is a second stint for Kennedy, who served as Main Street Zephyrhills executive director from October 1999 to June 2001. Among her accomplishments: She presided over getting Zephyrhills Founders’ Day into a national registry of historic events at the Smithsonian Institution and helped acquire a grant from the University of South Florida to develop a 10-year plan for the city. She also inaugurated a successful restaurant food tasting event called Zephyritaville that was later discontinued.
Kennedy left Main Street to take care of her mother in Clearwater and in 2002 married Jan Glidewell, a columnist for the Tampa Bay Times who died from lung and brain cancer in September 2013.
