Kenya Young flashed a wide smile and raised her arms high in the air Monday afternoon to celebrate her family’s new apartment as they aim for the American dream of owning a home.
“We get to move in on Friday!” said the 35-year-old mother of four, who found out three weeks ago that her family was approved to live in one of the newly remodeled 12 apartments that was purchased and renovated as a partnership project between Leesburg and Lake County Housing Services.
“When they called me, it brought tears to my eyes,” said Young, who was joined by her children and many city and county officials at Monday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony at the apartment complex at Simmons and Mispah avenues, in the Carver Heights area of Leesburg.
