City officials, business owners and concerned community members met to discuss the development of Gaines Street and what can be done to ensure the community remains vibrant in the face on ongoing development.
The first step is facilitating a discussion, said FSU grad student Nick Collier. He and fellow grad student Michael Diaz organized what they said should be the first of many discussions about the future of Gaines Street.
About 10 people met Sunday for the first discussion. The group focused on the Art Alleys and relationships between the businesses in the district.
“We just wanted to set up a project that we could engage the community with and get everyone involved,” Collier said. “We wanted an open platform to create a dialog, talk about questions and concerns and see where we think the area is going.”
