Bunnell residents want to preserve the city’s history and beauty but don’t want government to tell them how to do it.
That was the message city commissioners and members of the planning, zoning and appeals board heard during a joint workshop Feb. 20 at the Flagler County Government Services Building.
The workshop focused on the possible creation of historic preservation and overlay districts and the formation of a city Architectural Review Board to enforce those regulations.
The catalyst for the meeting came from controversy generated last fall when the owner of a property at 401 E. Moody Blvd. planned on selling the land, which includes at least two specimen trees and a historic home, to developers wanting to build a Dollar General store on the site.
