ORANGE PARK – A plan that would allow beautified gateway-like entrances to be established in the Town of Orange Park is up in the air.
Vice Mayor Marge Hutton has been leading the discussion on what are called Community Redevelopement Areas or CRAs. The town’s Economic Development Committee has identified an area of town that could become the newly designed gateway to Clay County. However, an attempt to fund the measure failed at the town’s Nov. 5 Town Council meeting. The CRA process could have started, but it actually has slowed down.
Mayor Jim Renninger requested that Hutton send letters seeking support from local businesses or survey local businesses in order to get a better understanding of their future needs. In an attempt to jumpstart the initial process, Hutton was the sole vote that failed 4-1.
John Bowles, the interim town manager of Orange Park, who is also sitting on the committee, said the committee has already identified an area for a CRA.
