Advocate urges leaders to make West Palm Beach more “walkable”
Encouraging people to live where they work, and walk or bicycle to their job sites instead of driving, is the preference of three fourths of “millennials,” people in their 20s and 30s, as well as middle-aged empty-nesters, a nationally-recognized city planner and author told the West Palm Beach city commission Monday.
Washington D.C.-based Jeff Speck, who advocates internationally for smart growth, recently published Walkable City: How Downtown Can Save America, One Step at a Time.
Speck was the only item on the agenda of Monday’s regular commission work session. Speck also scheduled a public lecture and book signing for City Hall for Monday evening. The Downtown Development Authority spent $5,000 to bring Speck in.
