Fort Myers city officials have to scour for $11 million to upgrade the Harborside Event Center if they want a hotel to go up right next to it.
That was the request of the would-be hotel developer John Meshad, who has been eying the grounds between the event center and the detention basin. Though he was not present, Meshad’s requests were made through Shane Eagan, owner of WSE Hospitality Management and representative of Acquest Realty Advisors.
Monday was the first time the council heard so many details concerning the hotel project since serious talks with Acquest and Meshad’s company JWM Management began last fall. Council members left the two-hour-plus workshop a little less cheery than they have in the past. Some seemed down-right frustrated.
