MainStreet DeLand Association has found its successor for the executive director who is leaving the organization June 15.
Beginning July 1, D. Wayne Carter will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mary Beth Harris, who is relocating to South Florida with her family.
Carter was selected from 12 “qualified candidates,” said Savannah-Jane Griffin, president of the MainStreet board, in a telephone interview after announcing the appointment.
“We went through the interview process, which was very competitive,” Griffin said. “He stood out because he had MainStreet experience.”
For the past seven years, Carter was executive director of Eustis MainStreet in nearby Lake County. Eustis MainStreet recently closed its doors after falling victim to budget cuts in Community Redevelopment Agency funding, according to a news release announcing his appointment.
