Belleview Biltmore Hotel
A group of Miami investors has a contract to purchase the historic, 115-year-old Belleview Biltmore Hotel in Bellair and plans a complete restoration of the structure and construction of a 153-room east wing.
“Our vision for the Belleview Biltmore Hotel and Resort is rooted in the magical experiences of historic Gilded Age hotels,” Richard J. Heisenbottle said in addressing the Belleview Biltmore Committee on Monday, according to a news release.
The purchase price for the 21-acre property and buildings was not disclosed. The hotel has been closed since 2009.
The partnership signed a purchase and sale agreement on Saturday with Kawa Capital for acquisition of the hotel, golf course, and cabana club properties. The Biltmore partners have six months to close on the purchase.
“Belleview Biltmore Partners has demonstrated it is the only party with the capability of restoring the hotel,” said Daniel Ades of Kawa Capital.
The Biltmore partners also include real estate developer Hector Torres, and entrepreneur and tourism professional Charles J. Kropke.
The Biltmore Partners’ plans call for restoration of the hotel in keeping with standards to maintain its historic designation.
Plans include restoring the 260-room hotel, building a 153-room east wing, and restoring the Magnolia, Palm, and Sunset cottages. The plan also includes improvements to the golf club and development of the beachfront Cabana Club property into a 38-room boutique hotel.
The Biltmore was built in 1897 by railroad tycoon Henry B. Plant and has hosted world leaders, U.S. presidents and celebrities through the decades. The hotel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, closed in 2009, and is now one of the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s most endangered sites.
