Bradenton should be proud of the visionary blueprint for the improvement of downtown’s riverfront. The $6.7 million Riverwalk project promises to be the catalyst for the broader revitalization of the city core.

With a variety of interactive features and other attractions along the Manatee River from the Twin Dolphin Marina to Manatee Memorial Hospital, Riverwalk should inspire private investment once completed — with one major developer indicating interest in creating a hub of shops and bistros adjacent to the walkway, according to project organizers. Since Riverwalk is designed to be a destination that draws both visitors and residents, this people magnet would provide the critical mass that private enterprise values.
