The surge in downtown redevelopment was temporarily stalled Wednesday when Naples City Council, in a rare flex of its building oversight, asked for a change of plans from a developer who wants to erect two residential buildings in Crayton Cove that exceed the height limits in the city code.
The project would demolish the 63-foot mixed-use structure at 801 12th Ave. S. and replace it with a three-story residential building with eight condominiums and eight transient lodging units. As part of the plan, a three-story building of identical use would be constructed on a neighboring site on 8th Street South.
But approval of the plan will be delayed at least a month after the developer, Bay Club of Naples, LLC, asked for a continuance on the proposal during council’s regular meeting Wednesday.
