WINTER HAVEN | In a span of three decades, Lillian Juhler witnessed the rise and fall of Winter Haven’s downtown, all from the doorway of her family’s clothing store along Central Avenue.
It began in 1930, when Juhler’s Ladies Apparel joined a host of clothing shops, dime stores and drugstores downtown.
“My parents had been in the business of buying houses, fixing them up and selling them,” she said. “But then came the (stock market) crash in 1929, and they lost everything. A year later, they opened the store.”
